Dave has over twenty years of coaching experience ranging from collegiate to age group swimming. He is an American Swim Coaches Association Lifetime member who is on his way to a level 4 certification and has twice been awarded with the ASCA Award of Excellence in coaching. Dave has nine years of collegiate head coaching experience at Darton College, an NJCAA school in Albany, GA, and at Colorado School of Mines, NCAA Division II in Golden, CO. He spent seven seasons with the Orediggers and coached one national champion, five All-Americans, coached student-athletes to 33 program records and led the men to four top-20 finishes at the national championships. At Darton, he coached one national champion, two women’s team national runner-up finishes and had 19 student-athletes earn All-America honors. His love of the water guided him to San Diego where he has been residing for the past seven years. He coached at Mission Valley YMCA, Coronado High School, Coronado Navy Swim Association before catching on with South Bay Aquatics in his most recent position. His age group swimmers have qualified for and been successful on many levels, including the Junior Olympics, Far Westerns, Sectionals, and Cal State games.
Coach David grew up in Muncie, Indiana, and graduated Ball State University with a Bachelor’s of General Studies in 1999. He was a Five-Time Mid-American Conference Champion, a current Team Record holder, and Team Captain for the Cardinals. He is an avid waterman, a Masters Swimming World Champion, and competitive adventure swimmer. He has Escaped from Alcatraz six times, a famous 1.5mile open water swim in the Bay Area, and crossed the 10 mile Maui Channel by himself in under 5 hours.
